Recycling Styrofoam

Also known as polystyrene, styrofoam is a plastic which can be found everywhere.  However, it is hard to recycle.  Recycling companies will not accept them because the material that is petroleum derived and from which it was made of takes longer time to break down and it is highly flammable and can kill animals if they will accidentally eat it.  I wonder how materials like these are successfully used specially in the food industry.

If you have Styrofoam products, avoid throwing them and instead find ways to recycle them.  The easiest way to find someone who recycles Styrofoams is online.  Some of these recyclers allow you to email your products to them and that is only if they are not in your area.  You can also earn little money from them if you have many Styrofoam for recycling.

However, the best option is still prevention.  Avoid buying products that involves the use of Styrofoams or if possible, look for companies who uses products that does not involved the use of Styrofoams in their packaging and buy only from them.  That way, you are assured that you are using and taking safe products and at the same time free yourself from the hassles of searching for recycling companies.
